Where Lochmere is

Lochmere sits along Kildaire Farm Road in east Cary (Lochmere HOA). The Lochmere addresses we checked use the 27518 zip code.

By road, the Lochmere main office at 502 Lochmere Drive is about 9.2 miles from the NC State Capitol in downtown Raleigh and about 15.6 miles from RDU Airport (OpenStreetMap routing, October 2026). Traffic changes those times, so test your commute at rush hour.

Lakes, trails and the Lochmere Golf Club

Lochmere has three lakes, and the Lochmere HOA owns and cares for all three (Lochmere HOA):

  • Lake Lochmere, the big lake. It has a dock and a boat ramp for residents. Boats need a Lochmere boating permit, and the HOA's About Us page says boats are limited to electric trolling motors. Most land around the lake is private.
  • Lake Lomond, the first lake off Kildaire Farm Road. A 1.1-mile walking loop circles it. Bikes, scooters and skates are not allowed on the loop.
  • Highlands Lake, in the Lochmere Highlands section on Loch Highlands Drive.

A few lake rules from the HOA: no swimming in any lake, fishing is allowed, and bass are catch and release. The lakes and trails are for Lochmere residents.

Lochmere Golf Club is a semi-private 18-hole course at 2511 Kildaire Farm Road. It is not part of the HOA. The club offers memberships and daily play (Lochmere Golf Club).

Sections of Lochmere and home styles

Lochmere was built mostly in the mid 1980s and early 1990s (Lochmere HOA). It has several sections, including Lochmere Highlands, plus townhomes in the Glen Echo area.

You'll find detached single-family homes and townhomes. Some homes sit right on Lake Lochmere, and many have their own docks (Lochmere HOA). Lot size, lake views and house style can change a lot from one section to the next.

The Wake County Public School System assigns schools by address. For the 2026-27 school year, the Lochmere addresses we checked were assigned to:

  • Elementary: Swift Creek Elementary or Dillard Drive Elementary, depending on the street.
  • Middle: Dillard Drive Middle.
  • High: Athens Drive High.

  • Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, just across Kildaire Farm Road from the Highlands section, with trails and the Stevens Nature Center.
  • Swift Creek Bluffs Nature Preserve, on the other side of Lochmere (Lochmere HOA).
  • Koka Booth Amphitheatre, an outdoor concert venue beside Symphony Lake on Regency Parkway. The 1.8-mile Symphony Lake Greenway loops the lake (Town of Cary).
